Here at Grin & Bear, we just love to design unique teddy bears for our customers, and we have recently been working on a teddy bear commission for Tresco Island. Tresco is a gorgeous family-owned island which is situated just 28 miles from Cornwall in the Isles of Scilly. Across the Island, there are so many wonderful places to explore and every visitor enjoys a magical and unique journey to an island paradise. We wanted to design a collectable teddy bear for Tresco, which would be as unique as the island itself.
The Tresco collectable teddy bear project
We have been proudly working on a collectable teddy bear project for the Tresco gift shop, after the owners of Tresco Island approached Michael directly. They wanted an exclusive bear for their island gift shop, which represents this simpler, kinder and more peaceful place in the world.
They recognised that collectable bears have always been popular with tourists in every destination of the world, as they are the perfect souvenir to represent the place you have visited. The island owners believed there was no better item to commemorate a trip to Tresco than a gorgeous, collectable teddy bear, which has been handmade by the Grin & Bear team.
The collectable teddy bear design
As we have already touched upon, the owners of Tresco wanted to ensure that the Island was represented in the design. Therefore, we agreed to use a gorgeous Liberty print - which is actually called Tresco! The design is based on the Abbey Garden situated on the island, featuring a selection of their beautiful flowers, ferns and succulents. The actual design is watercolour painted and represents the rich collection of plants gathered from around the globe, which perfectly embodies Tresco Island.
Liberty of London is well known for its range of quintessentially British fabric designs, and as the Tresco Liberty print is actually inspired by the famous Abbey Gardens, we just had to include it within the teddy bear’s design. The Abbey Gardens are home to thousands of exotic plants from around the world, which makes it a go-to destination for visitors to the island, as well as an exotic retreat for its residents. We wanted the Tresco teddy bear design to reflect the Island’s beauty which is so rich in colour and life all year round - even throughout the winter months, as there are usually more than 300 species of plant in flower throughout the year.
